KSTU representatives took part in the conference on board “Frederic Chopin”

The conference "Sail for students 2019" held on the sailing ship “Frederic Chopin” and organized by the Baltic University Program, gave two students from Kaliningrad State Technical University a unique journey in which they could not only meet people from different countries of the world, but also test themselves.

The competitive selection allowed Polina Merker and Daria Kugucheva to meet with the same lucky people from 11 countries of the Baltic region for the most unusual conference. The route on the training sailing ship Frederic Chopin ran from Aarhus (Denmark) to Szczecin (Poland). Throughout the journey, students were given the opportunity to become part of the crew and, on a par with the team, participate in the “marine routine”: stand abaft the wheel, turn yards, set and strike sails, climb masts. A trip like that was far from a comfortable voyage on a cruise ship, however, constant participation in the life of the ship gave students valuable experience and developed responsibility.

Living on a training sailing vessel, the conference participants actively worked in a team and developed projects. They were supported by teachers invited from European universities, who gave lectures and conducted seminars. Associate Professor at the Department of Electrical Equipment of Ships and Power Engineering A.Yu. Nikishin, who traveled on this sailing boat for the third time, also shared his knowledge with students from different countries. The project on the development of a solar-powered vessel, carried out by students under his supervision, was included in the list of the best projects of the conference "Sail for students 2019".
