Barque Sedov called at Murmansk

On 23 August 2024, the barque Sedov sailed into the Kola Bay and moored at Murmansk Marine Station, completing her first voyage of the navigation season. The famous sailing ship has not visited the capital of the Polar Region for 4 years.

A few days ago, during the passage from St. Petersburg to Murmansk on board the Sedov, there were held examinations that showed how well the trainees/cadets of the sailing ship mastered the programme of practical training at sea, which resulted in receiving their first documents of maritime specialists.

It is necessary to note that the final tests coincided with the crossing of the Arctic Circle. Very soon, the young sea wolves will go home.

During the voyage 1/113, the ship has passed about 3000 nautical miles, both using the engine and sails, and more than 1000 only under the sails. The deck crew together with the trainee crew conducted more than 20 sailing practice drills.

During the stay of the largest sail training ship in the port of Murmansk, a number of activities are being planned. In particular, the change of cadets will take place. More than 110 cadets of Murmansk Arctic State University will officially board the ship. About twenty cadets from Kerch State Maritime Technological University, who boarded the ship while the barque Sedov was in the port of St. Petersburg from 3 to 8 August, will also continue their practical training aboard the sailing ship.

Since August 24, the organisers have arranged an open board on the barque Sedov, which will operate from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. until August 27.

The estimated departure time of the ship from the port of Murmansk is September 1, 2024 (Sunday).
